An essential feature of this application is that the desired profiles can be edited both by entering parameters in the tool dialogues as well as interactively modelling and optimizing the profiles, for example by using splines. This also works with gear cuttings. After modelling in different 2D sectional drawings the resulting 3D geometric model can be generated as volume and wireframe model. Thus the three-dimensional course of flutes or cutting edges can be displayed and verified. When modelling drills the direct connection between major cutting edge und flute profil simplifies the modelling. In the contrary to existing systems there is another major advantage, as one can define a standard grinding wheel for any desired flute or gear cutting profile.
